A national consultation workshop was held on 24-25 October 2014 in Dhaka, Bangladesh under the title “Integrated Flood Management with Focus on Coastal Zones of Bangladesh: Development of a Pilot Project on Coastal Flood Management in Selected Areas of Bangladesh”.

The workshop aimed to gather parties involved in the management of coastal areas in Bangladesh, with the ultimate goal of implementing a pilot project on integrated coastal flood management. Some key issues discussed include: the exclusion of women in decision-making; the limited coordination between metrological and hydrological services; and the inadequate drainage of polders leading to water logging.

A pilot project will be developed with backstopping from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) – Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM). Photos are available here.
