Urban Adaptation Planning: The Use and Limits of Climate Science

Cities face a mounting challenge from climate change.In developed and developing countries alike, risingtemperatures, changing rainfall patterns, higher sealevels, and more frequent and severe extreme eventssuch as droughts and floods threaten to overwhelmurban infrastructure, services and managementsystems. City officials recognize the need to adaptto climate change, and use scientific evidence tosupport their plans for doing so. But the precisedetails of these changes and the local impacts theywill have cannot be predicted.
