Strategy Brief: ICTs and Climate Change Adaptation

The brief identifies the contribution of Informationand Communication Technologies (ICTs) to nationaladaptation strategies (e.g. NAPAs) and to specificsectoral adaptations in developing countries. Itargues that ICTs provide generic support to theprocess of information gathering, decision-making,implementation and evaluation for nationalleveladaptation. Specific ICT applications enabledelivery of particular adaptation actions for thevulnerabilities that climate change affects, includingpoverty, water, agriculture and food security, human health, terrestrial andmarine ecosystems,and disastermanagement. Thisdocument wasproduced as part ofa two-year appliedresearch project on“Climate Change,Innovation and ICTs”,led by the Universityof Manchester, UK,with funding supportfrom Canada’s international development Research Centre(IDRC).
