Riders under Storm: Contributions of Nomadic Herders to Analysis of Climate Change in Mongolia

This article argues that a more robust analysis and prediction of climate change at local level can be made by integrating the observation of locals with meteorological records and models. The example proposed in this article is the analysis of climate change in the desert-steppe region of Mongolia. It shows that combining two knowledge systems (local people’s observations and climatology) provides more reliable and relevant information and allows for better planned adaptation.
