Policy Research Brief No. 3: Governance of Adaptation

The Policy Brief argues that the quality of governance is an important determinant of successful adaptation. The legitimacy of adaptation projects, plans, and institutions depends on how the decisions made by them are perceived by the affected stakeholders. It is important that the stakeholders should not only feel acknowledged, but they should also perceive the decisions to be reasonable and fair. The brief derives from the experiences of the Adaptation Knowledge Platform while drawing on issues raised at the 2nd Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum held in March 2012 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, as well as a series of sharing and learning seminars.
