GIZ Global Project “Mainstreaming Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA)”

About us

The Global Project “Mainstreaming EbA – Strengthening Ecosystem-based Adaptation in planning and decision-making processes” is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by BMU IKI. It promotes global knowledge exchange on the linkages between climate change and biodiversity agendas in close cooperation with other networks and stakeholders, e.g. Friends of EbA (FEBA), IUCN and IIED.

We have developed a range of knowledge products on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) as a type of Nature-based Solutions. To learn more, you can check out the publications overview available in this booth and find even more knowledge products on

Our latest publication “Integrating EbA and IWRM for climate-resilient water management” is strongly linked to Nature-based Solutions on resilience and water. It explores how the two leading approaches in water resources management and ecosystem thinking for climate change adaptation can be merged to achieve greater climate resilience in watersheds. In addition to a conceptual analysis of the two aforementioned approaches, it showcases nine practical implementation examples of integrated EbA-IWRM projects around the world.

If you are interested to learn even more about inspiring and replicable EbA solutions, we recommend visiting Panorama – Solutions for a Healthy Planet, a web-platform where practitioners from many different regions of the world share and reflect on their work in the EbA thematic community.

Lastly, we are happy to announce the launch of the new EbA Support Facility, which offers the opportunity to access technical and strategic guidance and backstopping at critical stages along planning, implementation and evaluation processes focusing on the topics Climate Risk Assessment, Valuation of EbA Measures & Monitoring and Evaluation.
