Adaptation Planning

Different technical sessions under this stream will cover adaptation planning as a tool for long-term vulnerability reduction, best practices for maximizing CCA-DRR-SD synergies, climate services for addressing uncertainty in adaptation planning, mainstreaming climate change into development planning, and monitoring progress. It will also include discussions on the UN-NAP as a financing and investment framework for Climate Change Adaptation.

Stream Lead: 

Financing for Adaptation

Technical sessions under this stream will cover traditional and innovative financing schemes including micro finance; access to global vertical funds such as GCF, Adaptation Fund and LDCF; incorporation of adaptation into the National Financing Frameworks agreed to at the Addis Financing for Development Conference; eliciting government support beyond the provision of finance; and how private finance can be attracted to work for and invest in adaptation, etc.

Stream Lead:

Climate Resilient Development

Sessions will cover climate proofing expanding regional infrastructure investments (e.g. AIIB); linkages between DRR and adaptation; the role of ecosystems in adaptation and climate proofing, limits to adaptation and resilience, loss and damage, and convergence of approaches for adaptation and mitigation, etc.  Other sessions can include areas of strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters, measures to integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning, improving education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change adaptation, etc.  It may also include a session focusing on DRR in line with the SDG goals and targets.

Multi-actor cross learning

Practical inter-linkages between Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Disaster Risk Reduction, and Financing at different levels, sectors, and peoples.  The sessions in this stream will also cover new and innovative climate-smart technologies and their uses, urban applications, and social and integrated media for awareness and outreach. Will also include effective cross learning and knowledge sharing, population dynamics and adaptation, planning and practice of adaptation, population data for adaptation, etc.
